Bing said what she first thought was how SAD america was, there were so many vacant houses and empty lots...also we were driving down the street and we passed a big pile of trash someone was throwing away after a garage sale with a "free" sign on it and she screamed "stop". I stopped, I though we had hit someone or something and she jumped out and started putting all this trash in our car... laugh.gif

when I got her son in the country I got him a cake with a big WELCOME on it and he took one bite and almost puked, later on I realized the icing was half lard and half sugar, no wonder it made him sick...and no wonder everyone here is so FAT....

--------------------
6/15/93 got a letter from Bing
12/28/93 got married in Pagadian City
1/15/94 filed petition for her to immigrate
10/15/94 hopeless paperwork mess, got congressman to issue visa
10/24/94 Bing enters US on congressmans' visa, computers down in LA
Bing is terrified, throwing up, hands clenched into fists, INS guy has to pry them open to fingerprint
10/1/94 petition her son
10/1/95 first petition denied, petition again
10/1/96 second petition denied, petition again. Informed by INS there is no record of her entering the country and instead of filing for permanant residency, she needs to leave the country. Monthly trips to San Antonio INS to get temporary visa.
10/1/97 third petition denied. Fly to Manila, wait in line at the embassy for 18 hours for an interview, have shouting match with immigration officer, get visa.
Somewhere around 2/15/98 called to immigration in San Antonio and ordered to bring all paperwork and personal records for last ten years. Interstate closed due to ice storm. Go anyway. Immigration officer says "I can't believe they called you out on a day like this. Washington made a mistake. Does that baby have a birth certificate?" (Had six month old baby with us) Gives Bing green card, no paperwork neccesary.
After this, everything was smooth, Bing and Rap-Rap got their citizenship, every-one has a US passport.

I hate immigration.

QUOTE(Ampalaya @ May 30 2007, 05:19 AM)
Good for you Ron but most American men weren't raised on fish, rice, camote, malunggay and ampalaya leaves.
If you eat ampalaya leaves and enjoy them you are my hero!
Our taste buds just weren't acclimated to some Filipino foods and Filipinos taste buds weren't acclimated to our foods also.
Lots of puti don't even like to smell garlic and vinegar cooking!
Americans like their pot roast, gravy, peas and mashed potatoes for dinner and Ham and eggs, pancakes and toast for breakfast.
Few puti unless they were raised in Hawaii even like rice or eat fish for breakfast!
Plus the vegetables in America are mostly plastic and loaded with chemicals of ALL kinds and don't taste the same as the same species in the Philippines.
They probably can make someone from the provinces sick if they were accustomed eating home grown ones all their lives and not loaded with pesticides, preservatives and coloring agents.!

just like my hubby he never eat fish and vegetables...

I know this thread is quite old but here, I’ll share mine anyway. Omg, BIG burger, big drinks and big vegetables even the pizza crust. Everything is BIG here. Where are the taxis? I barely seen taxi except if I call for a service or if I’m in the airport. And I never seen at least one Jeepney around here (Lol I’m actually expecting). How about the malls? Oftentimes I’ve seen only one or two story malls here. In Philippines Ayala & SM are humongous and they are everywhere. Again, hubby interrupts me by saying "For the last time we are not in the Philippines anymore". Oh, I also forgot America likes turkey a lot specially on thanksgiving and once again it is BIG!

I am impressed with the diversity of the people working here. It was very new to me to see a lady mail carrier (what do you call her - a postwoman??) and a female bus driver. I also see seniors & people in wheelchairs working at the malls.

For roadkills I'm used to seeing dead cats in the Philippines. Here in Florida I see dead squirrels & armadillos!! ohmy.gif

Snakes!!! unsure.gif Every now & then I see snakes outside our condo & I still get surprised. Although they are the harmless breed I'm still not used to them. sad.gif
