Hello the WOF, i've heard about the closure of the US consulate in the Phils. Is that true? What will happen to my application to petition mom to come to the US. Where she gonna have her interview? Thank you all so much.

Should the consulate in Cebu City be closed, interviews will still be done by the consular section of the US Embassy in Manila.

In short, unless US breaks off diplomatic relations with Philippines, there will be a US consular mission in country that will continue to conduct visa interviews.

However, neither the Embassy nor the Consular Mission in Cebu is being closed. USCIS (Department of Homeland Security) maintained a field office in Manila separate from the Embassy Consular Desk (State Department). It is the USCIS Field Office that is closing. Some of the duties of the Field Office will be taken over by the Embassy, others will be done remotely by internet, phone and mail by USCIS offices in US. This closure will not affect visa processing as that is the responsibility of the State Department. USCIS does preprocessing and passes approved petitions to the Embassy for processing by State Department consular officers.

The part about redirecting petitions to the lockbox simply means that petitions can no longer be filed in Philippines. Instead they must be sent to the US lockbox address USCIS uses for accepting petitions.

The announcement from USCIS contains more detail and instructions for those who avail the Field Office's services.

The adventure continues
Fritz

May you find what you want in life,
know it when you see it and
have the good luck to get it
... and keep it!!!
