Philippines requires a valid passport for entry. The renewal process takes 8 to 10 weeks from date of application.

If you need to return to Philippines on an emergency basis and cannot wait for the renewal to be completed you can apply for travel documents up to 30 days before departure. Application must be made in person at a Philippine consulate and if applied for in the morning will be available for pickup later that same day. You will be required to explain why you are unable to wait for a renewed passport as part of the application.

If you are unable to reach a consulate in time to obtain the travel documents before departure you can apply for entry at the Port of Entry. For this exemption you will be required to document your inability to obtain a passport or travel documents prior to arrival and the emergency that made the trip necessary.

As a further complication, airlines and foreign immigration control points may not accept the expired passport or travel documents and refuse boarding and/or transit priviliges to change planes. For this reason a direct flight to Philippines with no stops at a foreign port is recommended. Also contact the airline you will use in advance to verify that your travel documents will be accepted when you board the aircraft.
