I see contradictory web pages about the DS-160 form. Some places say it replaces DS-156, (DS-156K?),DS-157, DS-158. But other web sites say that
for the K-1 Visa, it is not used but the DS-156, DS-157K. DS-157, and DS-158 are still required.

The regulations seem to change over the last 6 months and in differing web
sites.

What forms are needed now for the K-1 applicant in Manila?

This is country dependent.  The DS-160 online application is a new form that is not used by all Embassies.  Beijing, China is the only one I know for certain to use the new form.  The DS-15X forms are the older application forms.  Manila uses the DS-15X forms.  Read the instructions on the website of the US Embassy where the interview will be scheduled.  Each Embassy has it's own unique requirements.

The Interview Preparation Instructions are on the US Embassy, Manila website.  K1 for K-1/K-2 visa, IV for CR/IR visa, K3 for K-3/K-4 visa.  Instructions are available in both Tagalog and English

The DS-160 is NOT used for K-1. Not anywhere. If the Embassy in China is using them it is probably an error. Montreal has some weird thing with the DS-160 and K-1s but it might be some type of error or abnormality, they use the DS-160 'receipt' for some odd purpose: http://travel.state....forms_4230.html (and besides it is Montreal...) also U.S. Consulate General Ciudad Juarez has an abnormal process ( DS-260 is a requirement there: http://ciudadjuarez....g-a-k-visa.html )

Medical Exams – A caller explained that the civil surgeon who completed the medical exam used the wrong form and then wanted to charge an indigent refugee to reprocess the paperwork on the correct form. What recourse does an applicant have if this occurs?

USCIS Response: Customers should notify the Director of their local office when they have a complaint about a civil surgeon.

There is a new requirement from what I see.  I had the packet for interview all complete last November.  I am updating the packet and find the following in the interview instructions:

e. DS-230 (PART I) APPLICATION FOR IMMIGRANT VISA AND ALIEN REGISTRATION. Each applicant must submit one (1) completed copy of this form (Part II is not required). Download form at http://travel.state....forms_1342.html

This was not there before.  The instructions are here: http://photos.state....f2_rtf2_001.pdf on the bottom of the page it says, "(K1/K2 Applicants’ Interview Preparation Instructions-English/December 2012)".

The instructions say DS-156, DS-156K & DS-157 are required.  There is no mention of a DS-158 that the original poster mentioned.   I looked at the form dates for the 156, K & 7 and there is no change to the dates on them.

Anyone know of any other changes?

Greg,

There is no DS-230 requriement for K1 applicants at the Manila Embassy.  The DS-230 has been a requirement at Cambodia and maybe Vietnam, in my recent experience, but not at Manila.

Thanks for the info Ray.  It seems kind of redundant with the same information about education and parents as on one of the other forms.  Then it has about spouse information, which does not apply to any fiance hopefully.  I already filled it out, just 2 pages, and will include it in the packet anyway because Manila's site has it in the instructions.  I'll take no chance they start enforcing their rules on our interview day.

Greg :D  Packet almost ready to go... hope for interview by end of July.

Greg,

I think you've misinterpreted any Manila Embassy instructions regarding the DS-230.  Could you share the location where you read that the DS-230 would be needed for a fiancee visa at the Manila Embassy?  I have 5 or 6 clients being interviewed there every month, and this has not been a requirement for us.

For visas from the Philippines to the U.S. please be sure to use these instructions from the Manila Embassy: http://photos.state....f2_rtf2_001.pdf

Ray (and whomever else), it does appear the DS-230 is NOW a requirement for Manila (from the above instructions):

DS-230(PART I)
APPLICATION FOR IMMIGRANT VISA AND ALIEN REGISTRATION. Each applicant must submit one (1) completed copy of this form (Part II is not required). Download form at http://travel.state....orms_1342.html.

Some embassies have slightly different instructions, if applying for a K-1 visa from inside a country other than the Philippines use the instructions provided on the website for the U.S. Embassy in THAT country.

There does seem to have been a recent change with the Manila Embassy K1 instructions now specifying the DS-230, Part 1, for the K1 interview.  I've had several applicants interviewed at Manila in just the last few weeks and nothing was said about this new requirement.
