U should be able to upload your pic for your avatar through ur profile. Make sure it is 80 x 80 pixels. If u can't get it to work email me the pic and I fix it and get it up for you.

To put pics in your post u need to get a free account with www.photobucket.com or www.webshots.com. Upload your pics there and it should give u the codes for use in posting in forums. Good Luck and if u still cant get them to work let me know and i will host them for u!

Posting pictures onto the forum:

So you have various images and photographs saved on your computer and you want to share them with the world in on online forum.

First of all, pictures posted a forum, or mostly any other medium on the internet like a webpage or a chatroom, will require that the picture first be saved somewhere online. But you didn't know that, and you tried posting a link to a picture that's on your hard drive, thinking that the whole world will be able to see it when you post the link. The code will look something like this:

Code:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

C:/Documents%20and%20Settings/My%20Documents/My%20Pictures/Guitars/Acoustics/ac1.jpg

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

And your result will look like this:

C:/Documents%20and%20Settings/My%20Documents/My%20Pictures/Guitars/Acoustics/ac1.jpg

Obviously, that did not work! Why? Because the picture is stuck on your computer, not on the internet! So, you need to upload and save the picture on an image hosting website, my personal favorite being www.PhotoBucket.com which I will use as my example for the rest of this tutorial. Free and paid accounts are available through PhotoBucket. I myself have a paid account for the large amounts of images I share with the world, but the instructions I give in this tutorial apply for the free accounts as well. Signing up is quick and painless. Feel free to use any other image hosting website like ImageShack or anything else you might use to store pictures with. The general instructions can be applied to all. By the way, an attachment in your e-mail account does not count as an online web storage solution to share pictures from!

So, you now have signed up for an account at an image hosting website and they've granted you your own little corner of the web where you have the liberty to upload and save pictures already on your hard drive. With most of these hosts, you can typically upload more than one picture simultaneously and organize them into folders for easy access later. These steps are all very easy and the hosts should have very user-friendly interfaces to follow. Some hosts like PhotoBucket will even give you a preference whether you want to make all your pictures openly accessible to the public or to leave them private. This will be up to you.

So now you've uploaded the pictures into your host account and you want to share the pictures on the Forum. You have three options with PhotoBucket.

a) You can post the website link (URL) directly and allow other people to click on the link themselves to view your picture. The advantage is that you don't slow everybody else's internet connections down, especially if your picture file is huge and takes up several screens! This is common courtesy! Also, it is the easiest method of posting since you post the URL directly without any special modifications to the code. The disadvantage is that people will have to click on your URLs if you've posted a lot of them and it takes a longer time to look at all the pictures you want people to look at.

In the above view of a PhotoBucket folder, highlight and copy the text indicated by the red arrow to copy the URL. For the above picture, the code should look like this:

Code:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

http://img.photobuck...tars/shan01.jpg

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Now that you've copied the URL, you can paste it directly onto the forum when you type up a post or reply.

http://img.photobuck...tars/shan01.jpg

See, you can click on the above link and it will bring you directly to the picture of the guitar.

 Alternatively, you can post the HTML Tag, which is handy for inserting into webpages via HTML script but not so useful for some forums.

In the above view of a PhotoBucket folder, highlight and copy the text indicated by the red arrow to copy the HTML Tag. For the above picture, the code should look like this:

Code:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

<img src="http://img.photobuck...rs/shan01.jpg">

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Now that you've copied the HTML Tag, you can paste it directly onto the forum when you type up a post or reply.

<img src="http://img.photobuck...rs/shan01.jpg">

As you can see, the HTML Tag is useless and unclickable on the JCF because the forum must have disabled the HTML.

c) Alternatively, you can post the Image Tags, which is handy for most message boards that support the IMG-style tags. Please use discretion and post pictures that are guaranteed to be small enough so that they don't stretch everybody's screens!!

In the above view of a PhotoBucket folder, highlight and copy the text indicated by the red arrow to copy the Image Tags. For the above picture, the code should look like this:

Code:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Posted Image

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Now that you've copied the Image Tags, you can paste it directly onto the forum when you type up a post or reply.

As you can see, the special IMG-style tags allow the picture to be directly viewable to the world. Examples of improper IMG-style tags don't have the right combinations of square brackets and slashes, as seen below:

Code:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

yourpicture.jpg<--- Remember to include a slash in the end tag!yourpicture.jpg <--- Make sure there's no slash in the start tag![/img]yourpicture.jpg[img] <--- Make sure the start tag is at the start and the end tag is at the end!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Another thing to keep in mind is that only certain graphic file formats actually work with the IMG-style tags, such as JPG and GIF. Other formats like BMP do not show up using these tags and must be pasted as URLs. But please refrain from using BMP format, since it is a large and uncompressed medium and it takes comparitively longer to load than JPGs and GIFs!

I copied and pasted this from another forum I belong too. Might be a good idea to post this as a sticky so we won't have to explain it for others... just my $.02
