My fiancee is 4'10" and I'm 5'10". When I first met her in person I didn't think that she was very short, because everyone else around was also short. The first time I see the two of us standing together in a photo, I was a little surprised, but got over it really fast. It took a little adjusting for us to figure out the best way to hold hands while walking.

Hey Dan & Dezzy,

I haven't had the chance to greet you guys! Congratulations and best wishes! :)

As for the height difference, it's no big deal...Dez, pretty soon you'll get used to it. I'm only 5ft. and Mikey is 6ft. 3. At first it bothered me but now I'm used to it. :D

Hi

My girl is 5 and Im only 58, yet she still thinks of me as being tall. I try to explain to her that here in the states Im considered average or even a little on the short side, but she is still convinced that I am tall. I think that is the first time anyone has ever told me I was tall. Hehehehe! :D :)

Seems to be a pattern here....my GF also thought before I met her I would not like her....because she was too short(5'4", to ugly(?)too thin(about 100lb)....and too poor(lives in a bamboo squatter shack), and she STILL says bola bola every time I say she's beautiful!

Sis Abbs,

Thanks for the best wishes and congratulations. I am now married and start the visa process.

First time I saw now my husband on the airport I was so worried he might not like me, he;s very tall for me I keep telling him I am only half for him, but he kept telling me, He likes small and short and he loves me despite all, I feel at ease-:)

After few days we're been together I never think about our height difference I get used of walking with him coz he always assure me that our height wont matter.

I darely conclude, height wont really matter to two people who are much inlove like us....-:)

cheers all,
dezzy

In time your GF will get used of you as being tall and she might thinks you two are just the same height when you are together...... :D

I guess its our nature. Some pinays are very humble effect :) ;) Like me...My now husband when we was still chatting, talking on the phone never met yet, I always told him I am so ugly, short, and small he might not like me. Everytime he says I am very attractive to him, I say "Give me a Break" i bet you are blind and crazy hehehhee..

Wont really matter as long as you love each other diba??

I love my husband so much, so even I am only half for him I love him forever and I always will~~~

Help me understand that. Mahal ko does that to me all the time. Everytime I tell her she is beautiful and/or sexy, she says "Dumali ka!" and that my eyes are NG (no good)! lol She still does this even AFTER we have met in person. I will admit, sometimes it gets frustrating that she thinks so low of herself. She keeps telling me "we will see if you still feel the same way in 5 years." How can I compete with that? I just keep plugging away telling her "Ikaw napaka ganda, TALAGA!!" :(

Hmm, it is a little childish, but it works both ways.. if my gf asks on the phone if I eat enough, I can answer "Hindi, kasi mataba ako, pangit" just to hear her yell "HINDI" ...

But I seriously think she has low self-esteem about her looks. Filipino beauty values are different from mine (flat nose? short? I love it! )

Ha, good one Jolin. That made me laugh. I guess I'm one of the few Filipinas who don't have height issues. I have weight issues though :)

This is a little out of topic, but it amazes me how you guys can speak Tagalog so well. All my fiance could say is "Si lola ay maharot." He really is hilarious sometimes. I guess I need to push him harder to take out those CDs more often. For some reason height is only an "issue" when in the Philippines.

You go to another country and nobody seems to pay attention to the height difference. The people who put too much emphasis on it seems to just want to be taller themselves.
I'm out of my mind, but feel free to leave a message.

I don't think it is Philippines specific. It just comes from international internet relationships were relatively rich westerners tend to grow taller because of childhood nutrition then relatively poor Asians.

Then you add in the variety of reasons that such a high percentage of the Asians who are available for the western men are filipinas it just makes it seem as Philippines specific. If men were after the mestizo women of central and south America instead of the more european Latinas I think the height difference discussions would also show up among their message boards.
