I have a question about the donate button, i recently donated a very small amount to this site and im not looking for recognition i just want to know that the money went somewhere from my paypal account. I did not recieve any communication saying my cash was recieved. I think the admin knows where im going with this. I think this is great site and im happy to support but i will not donate again until i know my money is not just vanishing into space.

Richard,

I'm not part of the ownership or management of this site, so my response to you is as a visitor, just like you.

If you make a routine donation to a "not-for-profit" project, such as this site, it's a welcome gesture, gratefully received by the owners who donate much of their time (and expense) to maintaining the site as a service to the community.

I manage several other similar sites, also as a service and without paid advertising. If someone donates $25 - $100, I usually send a "thank you" email, but not always. Many of us who are actively involved with maintaining sites and services such as this forum multitask the management as much as 20 hours a day, respond to 200+ email messages a day, maintain discipline on the site (privately and in public), and are not always able to personally respond to donations or accolades.

Donations received help defray the costs we incur for website hosting, software purchasing, internet connectivity, clerical supplies.

Frankly, the "World of Filipinas" is one of the best resources available for the Fil-Foreign community, and there are and have been many. What makes "World of Filipinas" stand out, compared to several other popular, good, but commercial sites, is the lack of advertising or profit motive involved in this site's management. "Living in the Philippines 3" and "Visajourney" are also very good sites, but are both heavily saturated with profit-motivated advertising or sponsorship (none of which is making anyone rich).

This site, as well as MAG-ANAK and Asawa-Spouse, are generally free of the "advertising" infection which often requires the owners and moderators to bar legitimate services being mentioned which might conflict with paid advertisers.

Anyway, in answer to your question, I'm willing to offer that any donation you gave to this site's owner was appreciated and assisted with the support of this valuable service to our community.

Hi richard, Yes we got your donation, I just have not had time to respond. Like Ray said your money goes to help keep the site on line. It takes a lot of time to run this site so sometimes I'm a little slow on my replys.
Thank you for your donation,
TIM

Thanks, I think everyone should donate if they can. Sites like this provide so much valuable info and we should all help provide support for the cost of maintaining the servers and bandwidth which can be very expensive.

Managing a site isn't an easy task. If you don't have enough ads there is a possibility that the site will shut down not unless you will be the own you will provide maintenance about the Web host payment that should be paid Monthly depends on how many usage that a website will used in a month. Also we are using a community software which is IPB and it is obvious it's not a free software so before you can make nor update a website you need to pay for the license otherwise your website will be shutdown by your web host provider.

Here in WOF we are not irritated of pop out ads that comes out every time we tried to open each link. We are lucky that admins and other members donated a little amount of $ for the improvement of site. But ofcourse it would be nice too if a user will donate there is a system that would send a notification to the donor telling that the donation is all processed and received so we will be aware :)

Hope my little explanation help you guys :)
