Hello Friends,

Since when did we have CAPTCHA? I had to go through it yesterday while logging on  Thank you.

Captcha stops robots from automatically trying to log in with a brute force automatic password guesser and to prevent people from breaking into your account using a bot or some other tool.

Iím the only person that uses my computer, and itís locked down. So I just keep my account logged in. :)

Btw , long passwords with a combination of upper and lower case letters and numbers Ė and words that donít appear in the dictionary are the safest. ;)

At least a year now, probably more (since my memory is bad).

Medical Exams – A caller explained that the civil surgeon who completed the medical exam used the wrong form and then wanted to charge an indigent refugee to reprocess the paperwork on the correct form. What recourse does an applicant have if this occurs?

USCIS Response: Customers should notify the Director of their local office when they have a complaint about a civil surgeon.

Most of the time members never see or know what goes on in the Admin side of a forum.
In the past few months WOF has been hit hard with spam bots joining the forum.
We have many things in place to try to stop them from joining and posting on the forums. The Captcha is just one of the few ways that members can see. Even with all of anti spam systems that we have there was still about 60 to 80 of them joining every day.

Last line of defense that we have is me. I have to take all 60 or 80 of them and trace IP's and check the email address to weed out the spam bots from the real people trying to join. Try doing that every day. Doing it this way is not perfect , sometimes a bot will get past me and sometimes I will kick out an account that I thought was a spam bot when it was a real person. Like I said it's not perfect but its the best we have.

Roaddog is our host provider and he takes care of most of our tec problems. He did some more of his magic and put in some type of filter that has knocked the spam bots on their butts, at least until they figure out a way around it. So we are back to just a few a day that I need to check out and approve or delete.

So all the extra security that you see is there to protect the members and WOF.
There have been many forums that lost the fight with spam bots and are no longer on line. I wont let that happen to WOF.

I hope that helps you to understand why we have the Captcha and a few other things in place that you may or may not see.

Often members have no idea just how much work goes into running a forum, so if they knew, then I feel most would be even more appreciative of what they get to use for free and all the helpful information they get because of the dedication of people like Hawk. Thumbs up to Hawk many times over.

Hawk glad you now have those spam bots under control and hope they do not find a way around your new filter because they can be a real pain.

Retired, happily married since 94 & live part time in Cebu City and the rest of the time in Florida, USA.

Here! Here! I think we all take the stability of this site for granted. Its given a lot of information to many people. My thanks to Hawk and also the moderators, tech people, and anyone else who helps keep the gears turning and who help patrol the halls of our home here..... Whew!(I'm out of metaphors!)

Oh I see. The reason why I asked was wondering why now. Not here to complain Tim, none to complain (yet, lol). I just thought that somethin was wrong with my laptop or was under attack, excuse my ignorance  I'm paranoid about all these things that are unfamiliar to me. Thanks :).

Did you have a power failure or interruption with your internet service provider that caused your IP address to change? Probably you connected to the WOF server from an IP address it has not seen before and so it had no way to tell if you were real flesh and blood or a bot trying to sneak in. I get challenged by Facebook every time I have a blue-screen and log back in.
